Test Scores

If schools in the Cucamonga School District were doing better, I would not be running for school board against a 16-year incumbent who feels that these test scores are not a problem.

Test scores are a measurement of student achievement. They evaluate how a school is doing. I want to make sure that staff and students have the tools to help improve student achievement so they can be a success from elementary school through college and career of adulthood.

From the California official website for student standardized test results the results at Ontario Center School are rather disappointing. Half of the students are struggling to meet English/Language Arts and Mathematics skills.

Then we look at the totality of the district where the middle school has slightly better performance in English/Language Arts, but Mathematics went severely under.

When you compare schools, you need to find schools that share similar socio-economic and demographic characteristics. To help evaluate the performance of Cucamonga School District. It would be like evaluating Pioneer Junior High School in Upland with Rancho Cucamonga Middle school, it would be like comparing apples with oranges.

There are other diverse schools with ethnic diversity and socio-economic challengers who are doing better than the schools in the district. Perhaps we need to network with the principals and other teachers to exchange techniques and other strategies to help our students.
